Embassy of India in Azerbaijan Celebrates Hindi Pakhwada with Enthusiastic Participation from Azerbaijani Hindi Lovers

Baku, 25 September 2026: The Embassy of India in Azerbaijan organised a special programme to celebrate Hindi Pakhwada at the Embassy premises in Baku on 25 September 2026. The event brought together a vibrant gathering of Hindi lovers from Azerbaijan, including professors and students of Hindi language in Azerbaijan, representatives of prominent media outlets, Azerbaijani citizens and key functionaries of Indian diaspora associations.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador of India to Azerbaijan Shri Abhay Kumar highlighted the beauty, richness and importance of Hindi, describing it as a simple and expressive language that provides a powerful medium for conveying thoughts, emotions and experiences. He noted that Hindi is not merely a language of communication but an important expression of India’s rich culture, literature, traditions and collective consciousness. He also underlined the contribution of great Hindi writers and poets in enriching the language and taking its literature to generations of readers.

The Ambassador highlighted the growing global presence of Hindi, noting that it is among the world’s most widely spoken languages and that interest in learning Hindi is increasing in different parts of the world. Hindi language and literature are being taught at universities and educational institutions in several countries, while Indian cinema, music, literature and digital media have further expanded the reach of Hindi globally. He emphasised that the growing popularity of Hindi outside India reflects not only interest in the language but also a wider appreciation of India’s culture and heritage.

Referring to Azerbaijan, Ambassador Abhay Kumar expressed particular happiness at the enthusiastic participation of Azerbaijani participants in the Hindi Pakhwada activities, especially the essay competition. He noted that Azerbaijani students are being taught Hindi at the Azerbaijan University of Languages, while the enduring popularity of Indian films and Hindi songs across generations in Azerbaijan reflects the deep cultural affinity between the peoples of the two countries. He underlined that such interest in Hindi is a valuable part of the strong people-to-people and cultural ties between India and Azerbaijan.

The programme featured recitations of poems by renowned Hindi writers and poets, as well as presentations of speeches in Hindi by the participants. The event also recognised the enthusiastic participation of Azerbaijani students in the Hindi essay competition, with prizes presented to the winners. The participation of Azerbaijani Hindi learners in literary and language activities demonstrated their growing confidence and interest in the language.

The event highlighted the important role of Hindi in strengthening cultural understanding and people-to-people connections. The Embassy emphasised that, as Hindi occupies a special place in India’s linguistic and cultural heritage, promoting, teaching and taking Hindi to wider audiences remains an important responsibility. The celebration also reaffirmed the Embassy’s efforts to promote Hindi and Indian culture in Azerbaijan and to further deepen the close cultural bonds between the peoples of India and Azerbaijan.
