Ambassador’s Address during Yoga precursor event at India House 14 June 2026

June 14, 2026

Distinguished Guests, Excellencies, Members of the Diplomatic Corps,
Friends of India, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good evening and a warm welcome to all of you. It is a pleasure to see such an enthusiastic gathering as we come together for this Yoga Session in the lead-up to the International Day of Yoga 2026.

I thank each one of you for joining us this evening and for your continued interest in yoga, a practice that has transcended geographical and cultural boundaries to become a global movement for health and well-being.

Yoga is one of India's most enduring contributions to humanity. Rooted in ancient wisdom, yoga is not merely a form of physical exercise; it is a holistic way of life that promotes harmony between body and mind, thought and action, and the individual and the wider world. Through regular practice, yoga helps cultivate physical fitness, mental clarity, emotional resilience, and inner peace.

In today's world, where stress, uncertainty, and fast-paced lifestyles have become common challenges, yoga offers a simple yet powerful means of restoring balance and well-being. Its universal appeal lies in the fact that it is accessible to everyone, regardless of age, nationality, language, or background.

The growing popularity of yoga around the world is a testament to its timeless relevance. Since the United Nations proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga, millions of people across continents have embraced this ancient practice, recognising its benefits for individual health as well as collective well-being.

This evening's programme reflects the holistic spirit of yoga. We will begin with a Sanskrit Shanti Mantra, invoking peace and harmony for all. We will then participate in a yoga session based on the Common Yoga Protocol, culminating in Pranayama and Dhyana—practices that help us cultivate mindfulness, concentration, and inner calm.

I am particularly pleased to note the increasing interest in yoga in Azerbaijan. Over the years, yoga has become an important platform for cultural exchange, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds and fostering greater understanding between India and Azerbaijan.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to all the participants and performers for today’s event.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

As we prepare to celebrate the International Day of Yoga on 21 June, I encourage all of you to make yoga a part of your daily lives and to share its benefits with your families, friends, and communities. Even a few minutes of practice each day can contribute to a healthier body, a calmer mind, and a more harmonious society.

I wish you all an enriching and enjoyable evening and look forward to welcoming you again at our International Day of Yoga celebrations. Thank you. Namaste.
