Bihar Diwas 2026

Excellencies, Distinguished Guests, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Friends of India, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good evening, and a very warm welcome to all of you.

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Embassy of India as we celebrate Bihar Diwas—a celebration of one of India's most ancient and culturally vibrant states. I thank you all for joining us this evening.

India's diversity is one of its greatest strengths. Every state has its own unique history, traditions, and cultural identity. Through events such as this, we are delighted to share these diverse facets of India with our friends in Azerbaijan.

Bihar holds a unique place in the story of human civilization. It is the birthplace of Buddhism and Jainism, home to the ancient Nalanda University, one of the world's earliest centres of learning, and to the Mahabodhi Temple at Bodh Gaya, where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment. These sites continue to attract scholars, pilgrims, and visitors from around the world.

Bihar is also the land of remarkable personalities whose ideas have influenced generations—Emperor Ashoka, who spread the message of peace and compassion; Aryabhata, the pioneering mathematician and astronomer; Chanakya, the great political philosopher; Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of independent India; and Jayaprakash Narayan, an enduring champion of democracy.

Its cultural heritage is equally rich. From the world-famous Madhubani paintings and vibrant folk traditions to its delicious cuisine, Bihar reflects the diversity and creativity of India. This evening, you will have the opportunity to enjoy some of its most iconic dishes, including Litti Chokha, Sattu Paratha, Thekua, and Khaja. Bihar is also renowned for its GI-tagged treasures such as Bhagalpuri Silk, Shahi Litchi, Katarni Rice, and Sikki grass handicrafts, each representing centuries of craftsmanship and tradition.

I hope today's celebration inspires you to explore Bihar—not only as a land of history and spirituality, but also as a vibrant destination offering unique cultural experiences and warm hospitality.
