Distinguished Guests, Dear Members of the Indian Community, Friends of India, Ladies and Gentlemen,

It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you all to the celebration of the 80th Independence Day of India.I extend my warmest greetings to all Indians in Azerbaijan and to our Azerbaijani friends joining us on this special occasion.

As we celebrate eight decades of independence, we remember with deep gratitude our freedom fighters, led by Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Sardar Patel, Jawaharlal Nehru, Bhagat Singh, Sarojini Naidu and countless other known and unsung heroes whose courage and sacrifice secured India’s freedom.

Since 15 August 1947, India has travelled a remarkable journey. From a newly independent nation facing immense challenges, we have emerged as one of the world’s major economies, the world’s largest democracy and a leading voice of the Global South.

Our progress has been built on democracy, diversity, constitutional values, scientific temper and inclusive development. From our Chandrayaan missions and space programme to digital public infrastructure, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and renewable energy, India today is a nation of innovation and opportunity.

Our vision of development also places great emphasis on sustainability. Through renewable energy, climate action, the International Solar Alliance and sustainable lifestyles, India is working towards a future where development and environmental responsibility go hand in hand. India’s foreign policy is guided by strategic autonomy, dialogue, cooperation and respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity. We remain committed to working with our partners for peace, prosperity and a more representative international order.

I also express my sincere appreciation to the Indian community in Azerbaijan, whose contributions strengthen the friendship between our two countries. I encourage you, especially our young people, to remain connected with India and continue building bridges between our two peoples.

Finally, independence is not only a celebration of our past; it is a responsibility towards our future. Let us work together to build an India that is more prosperous, inclusive, innovative and confident.
