Embassy of India in Baku Organizes Guest Lecture on “India: Cities and Architecture” under Baku Evenings

The Embassy of India in Baku organized a prestigious guest lecture on the topic “India: Cities and Architecture” by Architect Rajendra Kumar, a noted Indian architect, TEDx speaker, and curator, as part of its popular Baku Evenings cultural and intellectual series.The event attracted a distinguished audience comprising academicians, scholars, students from Azerbaijan, India, and other countries, as well as members of the Indian diaspora in Baku.

Ambassador Abhay Kumar, in his address, highlighted the richness and heritage of Indian architecture, stating that it beautifully embodies a harmonious blend of spirituality and sustainability, aesthetics and functionality, heritage and modernity. He emphasized that India and Azerbaijan share a deep appreciation of cultural heritage and urban traditions, citing historic cities such as Baku, Sheki, Jaipur, and Ahmedabad as shining examples of living architectural legacies.

Architect Rajendra Kumar delivered an engaging and insightful presentation that offered a comprehensive overview of varied architecture across Indian cities. He shared interesting facts, including the innovative use of bamboo in the construction of Bengaluru Airport and the pioneering use of solar-power for functioning of the Cochin International Airport.

His talk was followed by a lively and interactive Question & Answer session, during which the enthusiastic audience actively participated.

The event concluded with a delectable spread of Indian cuisine, providing guests an opportunity to network and experience Indian hospitality.
