The Embassy of India in Azerbaijan extended its valuable support to the Baku Malayalee Association (BMA) in organizing a special multicultural event that brought together the celebrations of Vishu, Easter, and Eid al-Fitr. The gathering served as a vibrant platform for the Indian community in Azerbaijan to rejoice in the spirit of unity, cultural diversity, and shared joy.

His Excellency Ambassador Abhay Kumar graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and addressed the enthusiastic gathering. In his speech, the Ambassador lauded the Baku Malayalee Association for successfully organizing this unique joint celebration while simultaneously completing its Silver Jubilee (25 glorious years of service to the community).

Ambassador Abhay Kumar highlighted the significance of Vishu, the traditional Malayali New Year festival observed primarily in Kerala. He elaborated on its rich cultural roots, noting that Vishu marks the astronomical new year in the Malayalam calendar, symbolizing equality, prosperity, and the arrival of spring. The Ambassador explained that Vishu is celebrated with distinct yet beautiful observances across various states in India. These diverse regional expressions, he noted, reflect the beautiful tapestry of Indian culture.

The Ambassador stressed that the joint celebration of Vishu (a Hindu festival), Easter (a Christian festival), and Eid al-Fitr (a Muslim festival) in Azerbaijan powerfully symbolized communal harmony. “Such events highlight that we stand together as one community,” he remarked, emphasizing how people of different faiths and backgrounds can come together in joy and mutual respect far from their homeland.

A diverse repertoire of live cultural performances formed a major highlight of the evening. Talented Azerbaijani and Indian artists presented both traditional and contemporary Indian performances, including classical and folk dances, music, and artistic expressions rooted in Kerala and broader Indian heritage. These performances beautifully reflected the spirit of unity and the essence of the joint celebration, showcasing how cultural exchange fosters stronger bonds among communities.

The event concluded with a grand traditional Keralam feast (Sadya-style), offering authentic Malayali delicacies that delighted all attendees and added a flavorful touch to the festive atmosphere.

Mr. Ullas Krishna, the President of the Baku Malayalee Association,  expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Embassy of India in Azerbaijan for its steadfast support over the years. He noted that the Embassy’s consistent encouragement and assistance had been instrumental in enabling the BMA to successfully complete 25 years of its journey, serving the Malayalee community in Baku and promoting Indian culture in Azerbaijan. The event was widely appreciated by the Indian diaspora and friends from the local Azerbaijani community, reinforcing the strong people-to-people ties between India and Azerbaijan.
